So today I am talking about one of my favourite places in eastern Canada: St. Andrew’s, New Brunswick. Also known as, St. Andrew’s by the sea, it was one of Canada’s first seaside resort towns! It has earned many accolades over the years; most recently being named ” The Best Destination in Canada” by USA Today. It truly is a gem and it just so happens to be only an hour and half from where we live!
You don’t have to live within driving distance from this beautiful little town though. There are many airports nearby and plenty to keep you busy and relaxed while on vacation there. We love staying at the historical Algonquin Resort . It’s been updated throughout the years, but managed to keep all its natural charm. The porch is my absolute fave. Sitting in the comfy lounge areas while dining el fresco for breakfast or lunch during summer is simply the best, but we equally enjoy sipping cocktails or wine with friends there too! It is really a superb atmosphere.
They have a top notch golf course, an outdoor and indoor pool (with slide!). Also, a very important aspect for us is that it is pet friendly. You will see lots of well-behaved pooches come and go! Our Sadie just loves doggy watching (haha!). She has actually been going to the Algonquin since the first summer we took her home, so she’s pretty comfortable there and we love that. Although the Algonquin is our fave, there are so many other charming places to stay. There is also an array of things to keep you busy or relaxed, depending on your preferences.
My absolute fave is the Kingsbrea Gardens – they are spectacular (and dog friendly)! Be sure to grab drinks and or lunch at their garden Cafe, Savour in the Garden (also dog friendly). They use their garden for as many ingredients as possible. You might even get to watch the alpacas roam around while you snack on your delicious bites or sip yummy crafted cocktails or wine. Kingsbrea is also an amazing venue for weddings and events too! I have coordinated and attended some events there over the years. The atmosphere is beautiful, but was equally impressed with their ability to mass produce amazingly tasty and beautifully presented dishes!!
On the topic of food, there is a must dine experience at theRossmount Inn, which is also a lovely place to stay! The dining experience is incredibly well done. As a self-prolaimed foodie and restaurant owner, I would say it’s possibly one of the best restaurants in Atlantic Canada (next to our Brewbakers , of course! Haha, I may be a bit biased!). From delicious food trucks to fine dining, you can experience it all in St. Andrews.
Aside from eating and relaxing, you can also take part in whale watching cruises or head over to Minister’s Island . This is a spot that you can visit only as the tide goes out! You will also find lots of unique one-of-a-kind local shops downtown. So you can spend lots of time perusing those. If you’re in the mood for the beach, Katy’s Cove is a great place to chill.
If you’re looking for the best time to go, I recommend anytime during summer or fall, but Canada Day is pretty special too!! We took Elle Rose there to celebrate her first Canada Day, this year. It was so perfect. We couldn’t have picked a better spot to enjoy the celebrations with our little family. They had a list of events happening around the town from 6am-10pm. Everything was in close proximity so you could really take part in it all!
What’s your favourite seaside town!? I would love to hear all about it! We love to travel and seaside towns tend to be our favourites! Send us your recommendations! Thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of your week!
