Creating the Perfect Garment

Fur Vest: Recycled, similar herehere & here | Sweater: Arie (old) similar here here, & here | Leggings: Wilfred Free Daria Pant (the best faux leather leggings),  these Spanx version are also popular | Shoes: Stuart Weitzman Nudist | Purse: Chanel, but like this Tory Burch for less & also Rebecca Minkoff quilted bag is a great dupe for less | Watch: TAG Heuer

There is a service I provide to clients called, “shop your closet.” Part of that process is milling through their wardrobe and finding new purpose in old pieces, by reviving them thru alterations, etc. I have done this with SO many of my garments. It offers a quick and fresh update without breaking the bank.

That said, about 10 years ago, I was inspired by a picture of Sienna Miller in a lifestyle magazine, brunching in a beautiful fur vest. It was multi-coloured and fell below the hip. I searched and searched and could not a similar one anywhere.

Finally, one day I stumbled on a previously owned fur jacket that looked the part, except obviously, it had sleeves. So, naturally, I got creative and had the sleeves removed. Then there it was, my fur vest I had been envisioning! Total perfection and so economical (recycled fur!). I have worn it season after season ever since! Great piece!

So I hope this inspires you to think outside the box, next time you can’t find that gorgeous garment that would work so well with your wardrobe. You don’t need to be a designer to create the perfect pieces for you! All you need is creativity and a good seamstress. There is not to much a tailor can’t do!

The end result: not only will you have a one-of-a-kind piece, but you’ll love it and wear it like a boss, because it’s totally, exactly you! Thanks for reading! Have a great week!
