All My Hair Care Staples & Routine

Hey Everyone,

I hope you’re all keeping well. Sephora’s spring savings event is still happening (yay), so I wanted to share some of my favourite hair care products you can get now, for less. (springsave is the code – I believe today is the last day, unless your are VIB Rouge.)

First, let me begin by saying I colour my hair. I have a more thin coarse hair, but lots of it. It is more on the wavy and frizzy side if left to it’s own devices. I also find it can get dry, especially toward the ends, probably because I colour it lighter and use heat on it. So most of these products work well with my hair types.

Let’s start with my lifeline, dry shampoo. wouldn’t survive without Moroccnoil Dry Shampoo. I try not to wash my hair too often, mostly because it saves me a lot of time, which is EVERYTHING, as a mom of two under three. This dry shampoo smells SO good and of all the different brands I have tried it is one of my faves (MONAT makes a good one too, but they are not sold at Sephora, but you can find it here). The reason I like it so much is it works and also it doesn’t make my hair look super dried out like some others can, after days of using. (PRO TIP: a trick to getting more days out of your shampoo or blowouts is to use dry shampoo right away and then you don’t need to use again for a few days!)

On days I DO wash my hair (which is usually every 2-5 days), I usually start with the Olaplex at home hair treatment. It’s called Olaplex no. 3. I used to try sleep with it in my hair the night before I would shampoo. However, because it is not super comfortable going to bed with your hair wet (you need to use this treatment on damp hair),  I began putting it on my hair before I get into my sauna and stay in there for 15-30 mins. The heat helps penetrate it more quickly. You could also use a hot towel!

I follow this up with a good shampooing. I usually wash and rinse at least 2 maybe 3 times with Alterna Caviar Replenishing Moisture Shampoo. I love this antiaging haircare line! Honestly, it is the best I have tried. I used it for a few years, then switched to a brand called MONAT for 2 years (I still love and use many of their products, just not the shampoo). I switched back to Caviar  this last year. It is just is so nourishing for my hair type! I feel like if you have young hair it makes you look younger, so I do try to ensure my hair isn’t dry and damaged looking, as those are key factors of aging hair.

After that, I follow that up with Keihl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Reparative Hair Pak or MONAT Hair Transformation Masque or Monat Replenishing Masque. I use in on mid shaft to ends and leave it sit for about 3-10 mins, depending on how much time I have. After that step, I lock in the moisture with the Alterna Caviar Replenishing Moisture Conditioner

To style my hair, I use a bond & heat protector. I switch between Olaplex Smoother & reparative Style Créme and Caviar Restructuring Bond Repair Leave-in Heat Protection Spray. Both of these products are also good as a final product in your styled hair, to tame flyaways and make your hair looks soft and textured without feeling heavy or greasy. I also sometimes use Caviar CC cream over either of these products or alone.

I then blow dry my hair with the Dyson Airwrap. I LOVE this dryer. I had the Dyson dryer and it was good and cut drying time, but the tools that come with the Airwrap are the game changer. I rarely curl my hair anymore. I do still straighten it after I use the brush extension to dry, however. I feel I need to in order to get it super straight and sleek. However, I mostly use the curling wands to style my hair.

After I damp dry my hair with the Airwrap, I generally spray this memory mist by QUAI and style it with the wand, by section by section. I find this helps keep the curls longer and adds another level of protection. Also, it smells SO GOOD. I actually find I can layer this product too. Instead of washing my hair every day, I will shower or bath and then use the wand on the Airwrap to freshen my curls. Sometimes I will spray this in it again too!

Lastly, I usually finish off with the Olaplex Smoother or Caviar Bond Repair (as mentioned above). I also use Monat Texturizing Spray and Monat hair taffy. Both of these are great as they add depth to the waves and curls without weighing it down. If I flat iron it I only use hair taffy.

Once in a while I will use a clarifying shampoo to give my hair a good cleanse. The one one I have been using lately and really love is La Labo Scrub Shampoo. It starts as a scrub which feels great on my scalp and it breaks down into a really sudsy shampoo. It’s not available at Sephora, but I have linked it here.

For a purple shampoo I use Purology. I use both he shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner is where it’s at though, as you are supposed to leave that in for up to 5 minutes. I have tried several purple shampoos and this set seems to be the best I have found. I find purple shampoos tend to dry my hair our and many don’t come with a conditioner. This one doesn’t dry my hair out. I highly recommend. You can buy them individually by clicking on the link or get the set here

I also would like to give a shout out to my favourite brand of Scunchies, Loop! Quality is so good! They are based in the town where I live, Fredericton.  They also sell face masks and other lifestyle basics. I’m living for the vegan leather scrunchie I purchased a couple months ago. You can check them out here.

So there you have it! All my favourite products to keep me and my hair happy! Today is my birthday and I plan to place a big Sephora order to spoil myself. Selfcare is so important, especially at times like this and on your birthday – haha. Until next time, stay well! Thanks for reading.
