Shopping for Seasonal Transition Pieces

Shirtdress: Zara | Shoes: No longer available, but similar designer version here, here & dupes for less here | Coatigan: This looks like a nice cozy option, also like this wrap style | Clutch: no longer available, but similar here or designer here

September is always a difficult time for getting dressed where I live. The season is transiongion from summer to fall and the weather can be cool one day and hot the next. You could be a in sweater in the AM and a tank top in the PM. That said, there is always need for some good transitional pieces that you can layer.

I always try to have a few key transitional pieces that I can wear in late summer and early fall. They have to be a good enough balance to pull off in both seasons. Think, breathable fabrications in neutral tones. The key is to choose a fabric that is llight enough to keep you cool, but in a colour pallet to fit with the autumn mood. Something you can easily layer on cooler days.

I wanted to share this shirtdress is an example. It’s a heavy weighted linen. It has a great silhouette for everyday, albeit work or play. Shirt dress is just a classic and mostly work for most body shapes. The colour is nice and neutral enough to wear thru summer and carry you into fall. I love the midi length as it just really functions well in both seasons.

You can wear it with a pair of leather boots in a nice fall cognac colour, some white sneakers, or on a warmer day, a pair of slides like these. A long cardigan or coatigan layers well over it, giving it a cozy vibe. I actually paired it with a midi camel coatigan, that matched these shoes for my Sunday best yesterday. Was perfect for the crisp, warm fall day.

As a bonus, for moms that are still beastfedding (like me) it allows easy access! The one downfall to this or any linen piece, is the fact that it wrinkles easily. However, it still is so comfortable and really the wrinkles just add a nice relaxed vibe, which fits so nicely with slouchy fall sweaters. I’ve linked all the pieces above, including some coatigan options for layering.

Happy Monday!
