If you’re looking for a laid back beach holiday this summer, look no further than the beautiful Cape Breton Island. There are so many amazing beaches, restaurants and outdoor adventures on this quaint little island.

Also, if you have a fur baby, many of the beaches are dog friendly (on leash) which is hard to find, based on our extensive travels with a pooch. Actually, Nova Scotia also just passed a law that states that dogs can now dine on patios of eating establishments, so you can also enjoy your foodie adventures at most spots with patios, and not have to worry about leaving your dog alone in a strange place. There are lots of great places to eat (will do a round up of these in a future post, but feel free to reach out with any questions).

That said, having grown up there, I might be a bit biased, but did you know that Cape Breton has been ranked in the top 3 most beautiful islands in the world by various magazines, in fact, Conde Nast Travel & leisure ranked it #1 in the world in 2019! Growing up I didn’t quite appreciate its raw beauty and the fact that we were surrounded by beautiful beaches, It wasn’t until after I moved to Toronto for school that I rally began to appreciate the uniqueness of the small island I grew up on.

I remember as a teenager, I used to always ask my parents why they decided to move from Montreal to Cape Breton. As a child, I would go visit my family in Montreal and it was so cosmopolitan -I thought – that is my type of city. Was I ever wrong! Don’t misunderstand, I love big cities, but as I get older, I really appreciate the quietness of a smaller place as a home base and prefer to travel to visit big cities.

We stayed in Inverness this time we visited. We met my family there and rented cottages all next to each other. O many options on Air B&B. Loved staying in Inverness. We are actually considering being some land there! However, there are so many other lovely spots as well. Ingonish, Cheticamp, Maragree and more! The Cabot trail is full of amazingly beautiful places!

Also, sidenote, if you’re choosing not to get vaccinated and are from the east coast of Canada, you do not need to self-isolate at the moment, whereas most other east coast provinces (with the exception of my current home province of New Brunswick) you need to do so.

Lastly, Elle & Ivy’s adorable bathing suits and hats are on sale right now. The hats are size 1y-3y and 4y-8y, so if you get them now, they will last a few summers. Bucket hats are trending again, although I don’t love them on adults, I think they are sweet on kids. The denim makes them so versatile – they work with so much of their wardrobes and keep the sun off their face (which is the main priority.

I hope you had fun reading and if you’re looking to book a last min beach holiday, consider Cape Breton, Nova Scotia- Canada’s Ocean Playground.
