Have you noticed the fear that has taken immense control of people’s minds and lives during this season of life? The Bible tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, which suggests it is a spirit and not from God. If you find yourself battling fear daily, remember that truth. When you feel fear creeping into your thoughts, simply rebuke them and trade them for truth. When a fear based thought tries to enter my mind, I do my best to identify it and discard of it immediately. I will actually say the following in my head or even out loud (when alone haha).
“I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.”
There is power in the name of Jesus (proverbs 18:10). Saying that we rebuke something in His name, is saying we don’t approve of it. So in other words, we don’t receive it. By attaching the name of Jesus to it, we are exercising our faith in His authority, that He gave us over the fear. The Bible tells us when we do this, spirits have to flee. (Luke 10:17).
The mind is a battlefield. When I battled personal health challenges in the past or struggled with fear for other loved ones struggles, I have had to cling to God’s promises. I remind myself constantly what He has said in His word and what amazing miracles and victories He has done in my past. A good example of this, as many may not know, but at 6 months the doctor discovered a hole in Ivy’s heart. When told this, I felt an overwhelming sense of fear, as any parent would! Needless to say, I had to battle through, pushing past those fears with faith, declaring God’s truth in my mind, reminding myself of His goodness in the past and all the miracles He did before.
Miracles like when I thought I was going to miscarry Ivy and by the grace of God, this did not happen. God reminded me of that specific battle and how He saw us thru and would see us thru this one too. That said, until we got the final word, we were walking by faith, believing the best, which was a daily struggle, moment by moment. However, no matter how much fear penetrated and creeped back into my mind, I just kept rebuking it and speaking life over Ivy and truth from God’s word.
In the end, Ivy’s hole ended up being in a part of her heart that the specialist from the IWK said would simply “close up on its own.” Now, during all her check ups, it’s completely undetected. So they said it must have closed up. Some say that’s luck, I say it’s the power of God, prayer and faith.
The Bible tells us that what a man thinks in his heart, he becomes – that illustrates to us that our mind is pretty powerful! So be sure to feed it good things and truth. In my experience, God’s promises are the only things that are concrete in life. People may fail us, but God’s word never fails (Joshua 21:45).
Maybe you’re facing a situation that’s seems bleak and is crippling you with fear or perhaps it’s just daily uncertainties that cause your mind to become anxious. Whatever it is, know you’re not alone. We all face moments of fear at one time or another, but you don’t need to stay there. You can have victory over this evil spirit.
When you know Jesus intimately and you focus on His goodness and fill your heart and mind with His promises, casting down every thought that doesn’t align with what He says, you WILL see victory. God WILL walk you thru the choppy waters and get you safely to the other side. Just continue to believe, even if you are not seeing it right away in the natural, remember God is working on things in the supernatural (Ephesians 6:12) and He has your back (Isaiah 52:12).
So, I encourage you today, in a world full of fear, do not cling to the fear, but instead, cling to God’s promises and keep fighting the good fight of faith. I believe as you do this, you will begin to renew and transform your mind and see victory (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). This difficult situation won’t be wasted. It will be used for good (Romans 8:28) to build your faith; giving you something tangible to remember God’s goodness and faithfulness when you face your next storm.
Yes, there will be other storms! Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 as believers in Christ, we are overcomers; more than conquerers, because Christ lives within us. “Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)
So, next time fear tries to take control of your mind and your life, remember these truths above, as well as your inheritance and identity in Christ. You are a child of the most high God (John 1:12). He loves you (1 john 4:18). He is good (psalm 100:5). He is the creator of the entire universe and nothing is impossible to Him (Philippians 4:13).
