Biker Short Trend – Function meets Fashion

Biker Shorts: lululemon | T-shirt: Aerie (on sale – love & got a few colours in these) | Sneakers: Loeffler Randall (on sale!!) Handbag: Longchamp | Sunglasses: Vallon

The weather is warming up here and so I’m on the hunt for cooler athleisure since this trend has been ruling my wardrobe. It’s not my style MO, usually dresses are my go-to in summer, as they are cool and so easy to throw on and feel presentable. However, my lifestyle requires atheleisure more and more. I still need some cooler options for my daily outdoor walks and playdates at the park – easy clothes for chasing and lifting two littles.

That said, last year, I tried a pair of these cycle shorts from a new brand I had never worn and ended up returning. I am not sure if it was the wrong length (they come in various lengths) or if I just didn’t love them on me. That said, I decided to try again. This time I went with a tried and true brand that I have success with for years. Lululemon are my go-to for leggings and most things sporty. I really love the texture of most of their pieces. They are buttery soft and like wearing nothing. I also liked how they had 3 different length options to choose from. I went with the medium and am pretty happy with them (they could be an inch shorter for my leg, but they work for the most part).

I will admit, the cycle short isn’t the most favourite trend on me. Personally, I don’t find the most flattering trend, but I do love the comfort, coverage they provide for tasks of mom-ing, exercising – super functional for a busy schedule and combining those two thing daily. I also love how you can elevate them if need be. You can make them to look a little more fashion or straight up sporty. For this look, I found a middle ground vibe meshing both. I added my leopard sock sneakers and a comfy vintage inspired T- shirt with my leather tote bag. These pieces elevate the look to make it little more sporty chic, as oppose to just sporty.

If I was to wear these biker shorts walking, running or exercising, I would pair with my trainers or running sneakers and a loose sporty tank. This would totally change the vibe; although, equally appropriate to run around and do errands or chase littles in!

Depending on your personal style and body shape, you could also pull these biker shorts off with a pair of booties and a blazer or an oversized rocker- T or crop T along with a pair of high-top chuck taylors. I imagine these looks to work on someone likes my niece, Ireland (for those that know her, know – for those that don’t, linking her here for reference haha)! She has long legs and is lean and a bit edgy with her style.

I personally did not feel either of these looks worked on me. Maybe I could pull off the oversized blazer and Tee with some low-top sneakers, but the high-ups cut my legs off and made me look to chopped up (I need shorter shorts for that to look proportional on me). Also, I don’t feel dressy shoes with this look suit my persona (just wasn’t feeling it). So, although the bikers shorts are a little less versatile for me, I am happy with my one pair of basic black for now, as I will definitely get enough wear out of them to justify the purchase. Maybe they will grow on me and I’ll buy more? We shall see – but for now, one pair is enough for me!

As an image consultant, I always say, we don’t need to participate in every trend that happens. We should stick to things that not only resonate with her style personalty, but also work with our body type. That said, I’m curious, do you like the biker short trend? If so, how do you wear them? if not, what don’t you like about them? Comment below! Also, don’t forget to signup to be on my mail list and get notified when blogs are posted! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
